I adopted a sweet little spaniel mix dog that had been rescued from a hoarder house. When I got her home, it became clear she had the dog equivalent of PTSD. She was touch averse, completely non-responsive to her name, terrified of men, doors, dark clothing, and a myriad of other things. She vacillated between a near-catatonic state and endlessly circling the coffee table. She also suffered terrible nightmares. I was so desperate to help her. We tried Calming Care and it worked a little, and then my vet suggested Composure Pro. The change was like night and day. The restlessness ceased. She began showing an interest in things. She also began, very, very slowly, to accept petting and attention. Finally we were able to go for walks. She was a lifelong, daily user of Composure Pro and it made a dramatic difference in the quality of her life. However, I will note we subsequently adopted another dog that we discovered has fear aggression and is very noise averse and these chews exacerbated her aggressive tendencies, so as with any drug or supplement, administer with care.
This was recommended by a friend that has a reactive dog. So far it works pretty well to mellow my girl a bit when she gets too hyped about an anxious situation. It is not instant, of course.
This is the only product that I have found that calms my dog. She is a nervous wreck during thunderstorms and fireworks. I gave her a chew about an hour before the fireworks started and it was like I had a different dog. She was still a tad nervous but the extreme shaking and pacing was non existent. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
